Application of Multiscale Modeling for Characterizing Variability in Hydrologic Processes

چکیده

{We describe a multiscale modeling framework applicable for a wide range of hydrologic processes. The foundation for this work has been laid by Basseville et al. 1992] and Chou et al. 1994]. Their development is based on treating the scale parameter akin to time, such that description at a particular scale captures the features of the process up to that scale that are relevant for the prediction of ner scale features, as in the notion of state-space approaches. We show the applicability of this model for modeling and estimation of a broad range of multiscale phenomena in hydrology. The methodology is illustrated through an example using a soil-moisture eld obtained using remote sensing observations.

A Development Framework for Two - Dimensional Large Basin Operational Hydrologic Models

Large-scale operational hydrologic models are essential tools in support of multiple water resource applications such as flood control, navigation, irrigation, and habitat management, etc., at the regional or continental scales. These models, unlike micro scale watershed models, are defined over large areas (>10 km) and long time scales (typically for use over monthly and annual or longer time ...

Improving the representation of hydrologic processes in Earth System Models

Many of the scientific and societal challenges in understanding and preparing for global environmental change rest upon our ability to understand and predict the water cycle change at large river basin, continent, and global scales. However, current large-scale land models (as a component of Earth System Models, or ESMs) do not yet reflect the best hydrologic process understanding or utilize th...

Hydrologic responses of watershed assessment to land cover and climate change using soil and water assessment tool model

Predicting the impact of land cover and climate change on hydrologic responses using modeling tools are essential in understanding the movement and pattern of hydrologic processes within the watershed. The paper provided potential implications of land conversions and climate change scenarios on the hydrologic processes of Muleta watershed using soil and water assessment tool model. Model inputs...

Investigation of Vacancy Defects on the Young’s Modulus of Carbon Nanotube Reinforced Composites in Axial Direction via a Multiscale Modeling Approach

In this article, the influence of various vacancy defects on the Young’s modulus of carbon nanotube (CNT) - reinforcement polymer composite in the axial direction is investigated via a structural model in ANSYS software. Their high strength can be affected by the presence of defects in the nanotubes used as reinforcements in practical nanocomposites. Molecular structural mechanics (MSM)/finite ...

Multiscale Statistical Properties of a High-Resolution Precipitation Forecast

Small-scale (less than ;15 km) precipitation variability significantly affects the hydrologic response of a basin and the accurate estimation of water and energy fluxes through coupled land–atmosphere modeling schemes. It also affects the radiative transfer through precipitating clouds and thus rainfall estimation from microwave sensors. Because both land–atmosphere and cloud–radiation interact...
